The farm owned by Dr. Mike Asher and his wife Janet looks no different than others dotting the countryside in Elberta, Alabama, until you look inside the barn. Premium wines everywhere! The windowless, climate controlled building is a nursery for some 50,000 bottles of French, Spanish, Italian, Australian, and Californian "boutique" wines, all kept at an unwavering temperature of 68 degrees. Most of the wines, all personally tasted and selected by the Ashers on visits to the wineries, have never before been imported into the U.S.
Many of these wines come from small vineyards that get the same sun, soil, and care as internationally known labels at a fraction of the cost. The Ashers have combed vineyard country sides, escaping with treasures from small, family owned wineries with some of the best, affordable wines that would otherwise never be found.

For example, there are more than 600 labels of wine grown in Burgundy, which has 5 regions with various soils, starting at its north end, about 60 miles southeast of Paris, stretching about 220 miles south to Lyon. The region yields some of the most treasured wines in the world, yet only a few are known in the United States. By selecting lesser known wines from famous areas, M & J provides quality wines at lower prices.

Mike and Janet Asher founded M & J Personal Selections, LLC in July, 1998 as an importing business that has brought in more than 160 varieties of wine from around the world.
